The Board of Trustees meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the township office, except in November (third Monday).
The Annual Town Meeting is held on the second Tuesday in April at the Road District Office: 30W575 Roosevelt Road, West Chicago, IL.
THANK YOU to all of you that came out in support of our first recycling event on October 18th at the Winfield Township Road District Office. 255 vehicles delivered truck loads of recyclable items that day, and the event was a huge success.
St. Vincent DePaul’s truck was 3/4 full with approximately 12 skids of household items. A huge dumpster full of scrap metal and a 53 ft. semi-trailer of electronics were also collected and recycled.
Numerous items such as school supplies, books, yarn, buttons, sewing machines, instruments, Christmas lights, and records collected for Scarce, a non-profit which stands for School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education. Their mission is to inspire people, through education to preserve and care for the Earth’s natural resources, while working to build sustainable communities.
Twelve bikes and two scooters were donated for Working Bicycles, a nonprofit organization that rescues discarded bicycles and gives them new life by redistributing them as tools of empowerment in local and global communities. Working Bikes donates thousands for bicycles each year to partners in countries throughout Latin America and Africa for needed transportation. Locally Working Bikes also donates to individuals and partner organization to provide transportation to people in homeless transition, refugee resettlement and youth empowerment programs.
We received 445 pair of eye glasses and 2 hearing aids, donated to the local Lions Club. 92 cell phones were collected and donated to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. Also collected were 148 American flags, industrial batteries, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, and ink cartridges.
The Winfield Township Road District is now a permanent site for collecting used vegetable cooking oil and 10 gallons were collected at this event. Please see the link for additional information.
We are very pleased with the results of our first recycling event, and the positive response from the residents of Winfield Township.
And a very special thank you to all the volunteers that worked so tirelessly in the elements to make sure that all vehicles were in and out as quickly as possible. Winfield Township Elected officials and employees all donated their time to the organization and volunteering at the event, as well as Kay McKeen from SCARCE who was instrumental in organizing this event, and assisting where we needed.
Other organizations that came to assist us that day were DuPage County CERT Team for directing traffic, West Chicago Lions Club, the Boy Scouts of America, Elgin Recycling, St. Vincent DePaul, Working Bikes and Biodiesel Fuels. Thank you to everyone that made this event such a great success.
